Eboni K. Williams Joins The Real Housewives of New York City as its First Black Castmate

Attorney and television host Eboni K. Williams makes history as she joins season 13 of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City as its first black cast member. Williams will join returning Housewives Luann de Lesseps, Leah McSweeney, Sonja Morgan, and Ramona Singer.

Eboni K. Williams is currently the host and executive producer of Revolt Black News, and a cohost on Revolt’s State of the Culture. She carries hosting credits on NBA 2K, Fox News Channel and Fox Sports. Prior to television, Williams, 37 and a Charlotte, North Carolina native earned her law degree from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. After obtaining her Juris Doctor, Williams specialized in family law and civil litigation. In 2017, she released a book titled Pretty Powerful: Appearance, Substance & Success.

The announcement of Williams’ addition comes on the heels of the season 12 finale and reunion of The Real Housewives of New York City as its next season has already started filming. Through its twelve year streak the New York City series has been criticized heavily for not showcasing women of color. Many fans feel that a show about New York City housewives with only white women is a poor reflection of diversity of all that New York City has to offer.

It is important to note that the announcement of Eboni K. Williams joining the New York City Housewives franchise arrives after Garcelle Beauvais also made history by becoming the first black cast mate on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as Season 10 just finished airing.

“I think what Bravo is seeing is a demand for fair representation in a time where racial equality is bold, loud and clear” says Nathan Codes, a Production Manager on Judas and the Black Messiah, an upcoming Warner Bros. film set for a Feb. 2021 release. Codes applauds the Bravo network for being “a little late, then never” in their strategic decisioning of diversifying two of its popular The Real Housewives franchises.

Eboni K. Williams expressed to People Magazine that she is excited to join such a legendary franchise as the first Black housewife, and that she can’t wait to share a slice of life in New York City that has not been seen before. She also tells People that “anyone who’s aware of my work knows I don’t hold back. I’m going to keep it just as real here as I do everywhere else.”

Filming for season 13 of The Real Housewives of New York City is expected to run from late September through end of January 2021 and premiere spring 2021.
