Podcast: Pandemic DJing with DJ Ricco Savage

DJing is the act of playing existing recorded music for a live audience and first dates back to 1943. The 78 year old act is most commonly seen today in clubs, or at concerts and parties. In early 2019 when Coronavirus broke out and the World Health Organization declared a pandemic everything closed, from schools, churches, restaurants, clubs and more. With that in mind, DJ’s had nowhere to turn to play their music live for a group of people. In an exclusive report released by Billboard the value of the electronic music industry fell and DJ and artist income dropped from $1.1 billion in 2019 to a staggering low $.04 billion in 2020.

Now, in the peak of spring and since many states have relaxed their Coronavirus restrictions the opening of restaurants, gyms, schools and churches are rapidly occurring. With a predicted and anticipated high travel summer season ahead DJs see hope at the end of their money loss woe. According to the State of Georgia's Public Health Department little to no restrictions exist in Georgia, and travel to the highly popular entertainment city of Atlanta is up even more than throughout the pandemic as Georgia saw more relaxed restrictions during the peak of the pandemic.

One particular disc jockey, DJ Ricco Savage who suffered about a year loss to DJing spoke with The Celebrity Dive to shed light on his pandemic DJing experiences.
